Kernersville's Hometown Christmas Has a New Last Stop and Fewer Tickets to Buy

Kernersville's downtown December night has a new name this year. It also has a different shape. The Kernersville Chamber of Commerce now lists the event as Kernersville's Hometown Christmas, "previously known as Blooms to Bells." It runs Saturday, December 5, 2026, from 4 to 8 p.m., and it's free for all. When you compare the 2026 listing with last year's line by line, the changes all point the same way. The trolley route ends somewhere new, the garden lights that needed a ticket last year are free on the night, the paid skating session at the museum is gone, and the tree lighting moved an hour later. The part of the evening the Chamber tells you to buy tickets for early is the candlelight tour at Körner's Folly.

The Chamber hasn't said why it changed the name, and the listing doesn't explain it either. The schedule tells you more than the name does.

What moved between last year's listing and this year's

The Chamber's 2025 Blooms to Bells page is still online. That makes it easy to check what's different.

Piece of the night December 6, 2025 listing December 5, 2026 listing
Trolley route as described Starts at Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden, ends at The Depot Starts at the John & Bobbie Wolfe Visitors Center, ends at Founders Park on North Main
Garden light display "Bring money for tickets" Free entry on December 5
Kernersville Museum Ice skating, "bring money to skate" Vendor campus hosted by Favored Events, vendors open at 3 p.m.
Town Hall tree lighting 6 to 7 p.m. 7 to 8 p.m.
Last stop Santa, handbells, cookies and hot chocolate at The Depot Live Nativity and Santa's Workshop at Founders Park
Christmas by Candlelight at Körner's Folly 5 to 9 p.m. 5 to 9 p.m., plus warm cider at the Visitors Center

Two of the stops that asked for money in the 2025 listing look different in 2026. Last year the garden lights needed a ticket. This year, entry to the Spectacular Blooms display at the Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden is free on December 5, with the lights on from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Last year the museum stop was a paid skating session. This year the listing drops the skating and lists museum tours for a look back at Kernersville history, with vendors on the grounds starting at 3 p.m., an hour before the main event. It doesn't give a price for the tours.

The loop, stop by stop

The trolley is sponsored by Parks GMC and costs nothing to ride. You can get on and off at any of the five stops, and the Chamber puts each full round trip at about 18 minutes. The 2026 listing describes the stops in this order:

  1. John & Bobbie Wolfe Visitors Center, 401 South Main Street. The Chamber lists goodies and Kernersville history here, plus tickets for Körner's Folly tours. The 5,600-square-foot building is the Körner's Folly Foundation's headquarters. It has a community room, a lobby for rotating exhibits, a gift shop and the admissions counter. It opened April 1, 2024, on the house's 144th anniversary, as WXII reported. This is the first year the Chamber's route description starts here.
  2. Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden. The lit-up blooms are free on December 5.
  3. Kernersville Museum. Museum tours, vendors and food trucks.
  4. Kernersville Chamber of Commerce. The trolley heads up Mountain Street here, and you can see the Town of Kernersville's lighted Christmas tree.
  5. Founders Park at North Main. This is the last drop-off, with the Live Nativity and Santa's Workshop.

The new last stop gets the most new programming. The Live Nativity is sponsored by Welden Village and Parks Company and tells the Christmas story with live actors and animals. It runs on the half hour from 4 to 8 p.m. Santa's Workshop is in Founders Park, at Main and Mountain. Leadership Kernersville is offering free gift wrapping at First Citizens Bank, and the listing also names author Nancy Naigle among the night's attractions.

The tree lighting at Town Hall now runs from 7 to 8 p.m., with hot cocoa, donuts, and performances by Kernersville choirs and musicians. It's sponsored by the Town of Kernersville Parks and Recreation. Because the lighting moved later, it now falls inside the garden's 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. light window instead of starting before most of it.

The ticket worth buying ahead

With the trolley and the garden lights free, the ticketed draw the Chamber flags is Christmas by Candlelight at Körner's Folly. Tickets for Körner's Folly tours are also sold at the Visitors Center stop. Candlelight runs from 5 to 9 p.m. on December 5. The Chamber's listing describes the historic home decorated with lights for the season and says plainly, "Buy tickets early."

Körner's Folly's own event pages still show only last year's candlelight dates, December 6 and December 20, 2025, so for 2026 the Chamber's schedule is the current listing. For context on what a ticket costs on a regular day, standard self-guided admission is $14 plus tax for adults and $7 plus tax for ages 6 to 18, and children 5 and under get in free. Körner's Folly's own pages list a December 8 brass concert, but they don't yet show 2026 dates for candlelight or the Victorian Christmas tours. The Ciener garden's own Spectacular Holiday Blooms page also still reads "Information coming soon for 2026!"

The house's fall programs show how fast its evening events fill. At last check, Mystery After Dark on October 24 had sold out its 8 p.m. slot and had one ticket left in each of the 7 and 9 p.m. slots. It's open to ages 13 and up. The 21-and-over Spirited Halloween Ball on October 30 was already listed as sold out. Ticket counts change by the hour, but candlelight night has followed the same pattern as the house's other after-hours events.

Where to eat between stops

The loop runs along Main and Mountain streets, and several places on that stretch have recent evidence they're open:

  • Blue Skies Creamery, 116 N. Main St. Homemade ice cream and sorbets, plus shakes and floats. The Winston-Salem Journal reported the storefront opened April 25, 2026. It's the closest stop for dessert on the north end, near the Founders Park drop-off.
  • The Gaslight on Main, 126 S. Main St., Suite G. New American food in the space that used to be The Prescott. The Journal reported it opened June 5. Its menu is online.
  • Kyle's Coffee, 126 S. Main St., Suite A. Its site lists Monday through Saturday hours and online ordering. It's in the same building as The Gaslight, a short walk up Main from the Visitors Center.
  • Breathe Cocktail Lounge, 221 N. Main St., upstairs. Cocktails and small plates.
  • Cake and All Things Yummy, 103 E. Mountain St. Custom cakes, cupcakes and other baked sweets, open Tuesday through Saturday.

Along the route itself, the Chamber lists kettle corn, cookies and hot chocolate for purchase.

The weeks leading up to December 5

The same few blocks host a run of fall events before the trolley night, and several are tied to the same buildings:

  • Saturday, October 17, 1 to 3 p.m. Pencil Puppet Plays with Miss Marcia in the Visitors Center's Community Room, with performances at 1:30 and 2 p.m. It's free, and you don't need to pre-register.
  • Saturday, October 24. Mystery After Dark at Körner's Folly, with entry at 7, 8 or 9 p.m.
  • Friday, October 30, 6 to 10 p.m. The Spirited Halloween Ball, listed as sold out.
  • Saturday, October 31, 6 to 8 p.m. Kernersville Downtown Trick or Treat. It's free, with candy and Hallowheels.
  • November 6 and 7. The 43rd Annual Cozy Cottage Craft Show, on the Chamber calendar. Times and venue aren't listed yet.
  • Sunday, November 8, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. The Veterans Parade. Participants gather at the Farmers Market by 2 p.m., and the parade returns there for a Hero's Welcome.

The schedule keeps going after the trolley night. The Kernersville Christmas Parade steps off the next afternoon, Sunday, December 6, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Its route runs from Pineview Drive and Highway 66 along East and West Mountain streets to Kernersville Elementary. On Tuesday, December 8, the Piedmont Wind Symphony brings Moravian Holiday Brass to Körner's Folly, with performances at 6 and 7:15 p.m.

If you came to our summer weekend guide for the Ciener concerts, this is the same downtown on its winter schedule, and the trolley, the garden lights and the Founders Park finale are free on December 5. The candlelight tour at Körner's Folly is the one the Chamber says to buy tickets for early.
